Nestled between the Swiss border and Burgundy, Jura remains one of France’s most captivating yet underappreciated wine regions. While many Burgundy winemakers pass through on their journeys to the Alps, Jura’s distinctive terroir and remarkable wines have only recently gained broader recognition.
Unlike Burgundy’s limestone-dominated vineyards, Jura’s landscape is shaped by ancient clay-rich marl soils dating back to the Triassic and Early Jurassic periods. These unique soils give rise to wines of exceptional character, freshness, and complexity.
Domaine du Pélican, located in Montigny-lès-Arsures near Arbois, was founded in 2012 by Guillaume d’Angerville of the renowned Domaine Marquis d’Angerville in Volnay. Guillaume’s journey into Jura began with a glass of Chardonnay in Paris that he initially mistook for a fine Meursault. Struck by its quality and individuality, he spent several years searching for the region’s finest vineyard sites before establishing the estate.
Savagnin, which Guillaume d’Angerville calls “the great Jura grape,” is celebrated for its vibrant acidity, mineral depth, and remarkable versatility. From fresh, aromatic expressions to the region’s distinctive oxidative styles, Savagnin offers an extraordinary range of experiences.
We invite you to discover the many faces of Savagnin with this exclusive mixed selection.
